A big salary for Perl programmers

Today I got the news that Lincoln Stein, the famous bioinformatics scientist and Perl hacker, offers <= 80K USD to hire a Perl programmer to work as scientific programmer. Their projects are Generic Genome Browser, BioMart, and Reactome database. These are totally open source, Perl-based web servers for systems biology. I bet that Mr Stein got big fund for these.

By the way, Mr Stein is now at CSHL.

I'm wondering if a hardened Perl hacker could do this job as his/her half-time? If so, how fascinating that would be!!
